HI, I’M JULIANNE!
Thanks for poking around this lil’ website of mine. I’ve been vegan for over ten years and I’m a firm believer in eating lots of vegetables, knowing your farmer, and understanding where your food comes from, no matter your dietary choices. Whether you are vegan or not, I hope you can find some valuable ideas, information, and inspiration here on Hashtag Vegan.
MY STORY
I’ve been in love with food as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t always a healthy relationship. Like many young women, I went through a period where I struggled with my body image and self-worth, and my relationship with food suffered greatly. For five long years of under-eating, over-eating, and under-eating again, my love for food got lost and was overpowered by feelings of negativity and shame. I hid it well (or so I thought), but inside, I was struggling.
Fast forward to the summer of 2008, when I stumbled upon a few books that changed the course of my life. The nutritional and environmental aspects of veganism interested me, but it was the information about factory farming that I wasn’t able to ignore as a huge animal lover. It didn’t happen overnight, but instead took about six months of transitioning and deep introspection. By January of 2009, I was committed to leading a vegan lifestyle, and my relationship with food turned into one of positivity, peace, and freedom from a vicious cycle I had once been caught up in. Since then, my physical, mental, and spiritual well-being have only continued to improve and flourish with each passing year.
In 2012, I decided that I wanted to help others along their path to health so I enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and studied dietary theories, nutrition science, modern health issues, and coaching strategies. I now hold a certificate in Holistic Health Coaching (certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners) along with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wesleyan University. In March of 2015, I started Hashtag Vegan as a simple Instagram account and I quickly discovered that the online vegan community was one that I wanted to be a part of. My goal in launching this site was to a create a space for all things vegan: food and drink recipes, lifestyle tips, stories of our brave animal friends, and much more. Whether you are totally new to a vegan lifestyle or are a longtime vegan, I hope that you will find something valuable here on hashtagvegan.com.
I currently live on the beautiful North Fork of Long Island with my husband Ben and our two rescue pups Juicy and Bogey. I am grateful to work as a marketing coordinator during the day and be “hashtagvegan” at night.
Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions or would simply like to chat, e-mail me anytime at hello@hashtagvegan.com. And make sure to follow me on Instagram (@hashtagvegan) to see what I’m up to!
