It’s no secret, I’m obsessed with my Vitamix blender. I use it daily and talk about it constantly. My only regret (in life, really) is not buying one sooner. I spent years talking about buying my own, after using them on the job in restaurants and knowing how amazing they are, but I always thought it would be one of those things that I would have “one day.” One day when I was settled, married, with money in the bank, I would buy myself a Vitamix.
Well last year, I got sick of waiting and saved up a few hundred bucks to buy a reconditioned one. BEST. DECISION. EVER. By all means, if you have an extra $700 laying around, go ahead and buy their newest model, brand new. But if you’re anything like me, it’s hard to justify spending that much on anything. I’ve had my reconditioned one for almost a year now, and I honestly could not be happier with it.
Wondering if you should go new or reconditioned? Here are my top five reasons why I say save your money and buy reconditioned.
1) All reconditioned Vitamix blenders come with a FREE five-year warranty.
That means that Vitamix will cover all parts, performance, labor, and two-way shipping (meaning you don’t have to pay a penny if something goes wrong) within five years. This just shows how confident they are in the quality of their product, but also gives you some peace of mind. You also get free customer service for the lifetime of the product!
2) Reconditioned Vitamix blenders go through rigorous testing.
Blenders must pass a 17-point inspection test to become “certified reconditioned.” Any significant scratches on the unit, a funny sound coming from the motor, or a date stamp more than five years old will automatically disqualify a machine, requiring it to be recycled. Any component of the blender (i.e. blade, dial, etc) that does not pass the test, will be replaced with a brand new part.
Once a machine has been reconditioned and passes the test, it goes through two more rigorous quality control inspections to make sure that the unit is in tip top shape before it ships out.
3) All reconditioned units get brand new containers and lids.
Vegans, fear not. You’ll get a brand new pitcher so you don’t have to worry about what else has been inside of it. Any blade over one year old (or if it has any dull edges or sign of damage) is replaced with a brand new one as well. Any blade that is not replaced gets sanitized in a high temperature dishwasher.
4) You might actually get sent a brand new blender anyway!
Sometimes Vitamix will actually send you a brand new one if they have low inventory on reconditioned. Obviously there’s no way to know ahead of time, but the truth is that you probably won’t even be able to tell the difference once you get it. Every reconditioned unit I’ve ever seen literally looks brand, sparklin’ new!
5) Buying a reconditioned unit SAVES YOU MONEY. Duh.
The last reason is the most obvious one. Buying a reconditioned unit can save you hundreds of dollars. With a brand that has such a strong reputation for customer service, you really can’t go wrong buying a reconditioned unit. (Oh and once you start using the Vitamix, you’ll continue to save money because you probably will never pay for a $12 smoothie ever again.)
So, moral of the story is, don’t be afraid of purchasing a reconditioned unit, especially if you are on a budget. It’s a much better investment than buying a cheap-o $50 blender that you’ll have to replace every year, and you still get the satisfaction of knowing that you saved a few (hundred) bucks. Hey, maybe “one day” we can all have the fancy new ones, but until then…
For the animals,
